As winter arrives in Western Pennsylvania, the lids have been placed on the one-million gallon anaerobic digesters at the Altoona Water Authorityās (AWA) Westerly facility and the Ovivo linear motion mixers are now in place. Construction on the AWAās project is more than two-thirds complete, and the co-digestion operation is scheduled to start up in the spring. By co-digesting high strength organic waste, Altoona will generate renewable biogas that can be harnessed to power some of its plant operations.Ā
