City of Huber Heights and ESG Complete Energy Efficiency and Infrastructure Improvements

Huber Heights, Ohio – The City of Huber Heights and Energy Systems Group, LLC (ESG), a leading energy services provider, recently completed comprehensive energy efficiency improvements as part of a $3.3 million contract. The City leveraged Ohio legislation allowing alternative procurement methods for energy conservation infrastructure improvements.

The improvements are expected to result in $1.6 million of total energy and operational savings over 15 years and are expected to reduce the City’s carbon footprint by more than 336 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually. This is equivalent to annually reducing greenhouse emissions from 72 passenger vehicles or planting 398 acres of forest according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The project scope includes various mechanical upgrades such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades, indoor air quality improvements at City Hall, the police station, courts, and three fire stations, and upgrades to pool circulation pumps at the Kroger Aquatic Center. ESG also upgraded 703 interior lighting fixtures from early generation light-emitting diode (LED) lighting and installed LED parking lot lighting at multiple facilities, including Rose Music Center. Other improvements include:

  • A new citywide energy management system
  • Citywide upgrades of LED traffic and pedestrian signals
  • Replacement emergency generators at two fire stations
  • Upgraded traffic controllers at 23 intersections
  • Turnkey conversion of two signalized intersections from span wire to mast arm style

“Our City leaders are committed to ensuring the availability of resources and quality City services and support,” said Bryan Chodkowski, Interim City Manager. “These improvements will help fulfill our goals for economic growth, sustainability and modernized infrastructure for many years ahead,” added Mr. Chodkowski. “ESG helped us design an energy efficient capital improvement project that will benefit our residents and environment without the requirement of new taxes.”

“ESG commends the City of Huber Heights for its commitment to promoting economic development and efficiency,” said Keith Valiquette, ESG account executive. “Underscoring its motto Come Grow with Us!, these innovative improvements will help modernize City infrastructure, benefit local residents and businesses, and promote growth.”
